I am going to shamelessly steal an idea from Soutenus at A Catholic Notebook who had the grand idea of asking Catholic bloggers what their favorite Catholic books are. There is a fabulous list growing from the comments. Such a great list that I am going to see if I can do something like it for a "need" I have in my own life. My best friend just gave me a new iPod for my birthday…..did I mention she is a really GREAT friend? Now I have an MP3 player but it is a Creative Zen so I've never been able to take advantage of the whole world of iTunes and, of course, having a new music gadget means you get to spend some time looking over the things you listen to and looking to see how you can improve that.
SO…..what are your favorite things to listen to? A list is fine but if you could add a mini-review that would be even better. I will compile the results into a blog post to share.
And while you are at it, go tell Soutenus your favorite Catholic books!

I cannot get enough of listening to Peter Phillips and the Tallis Scholars sing Dum Transisset Sabbatum. I was first introduced to that piece when the National Basilica choir sang it for the Pope, and it takes my breath away every time. I keep thinking that I’ll get sick of it since I listen to it all day every day, but I keep liking it more and more. I think it’s some of the best proof of God’s existence I’ve ever seen (or, rather, heard).
…Sorry I don’t have any other suggestions. I pretty much just listen to that song, and occasionally some rap.

As long as we’re being shameless, I simply have to invite you to listen to my Catholic Moments podcast at http://www.catholicmoments.com - on almost every episode, I share an interview with wonderful people who are doing great things to help share our faith.
As far as music, my all time favorites are Sarah Bauer, Sharmane, Matt Maher and Popple. I’ve got plenty of other recommendations as well, but those would be my tops.
As for podcasting, everything over at http://www.SQPN.com is great - you have a full range of choices, from apologetics to humor and everything in between. Looking forward to seeing your list!

I love this idea!!
As soon as I finally fully enter this 21st century (as in: when I finally break down and get an ipod) I am sure my selections will include some classic Catholic music like Gregorian Chant, Maria Calla singing Ave Maria and the most beautiful Pie Jesu I can find!
For now — in my car CD player I mostly listen to Michael John Poirier when I am not listening to Lighthouse CDs (Catholic Speakers)

John Foley, S.J. - (almost everything but The Beautiful Mother is new to me and I loved it)
Robert Kochis - (many hymns you’d recognize which are wonderfully done but particularly the Prayer of St. Francis)
Michael Joncas - Mary’s Song
Marty Haugen - Canticle of the Sun
Gary Daigle - Canticle of the Turning
Matt Maher - (someone recommended him and I got some good stuff so I ditto that rec)

Schola Cantorum Dublin has some wonderful chant but a particular favorite (not chant) on their album Canticle of the Sun is called Open Your Ears O Christian People.
Dan Schutte - Sing a New Song
David Haas – Send Us Your Spirit
Al Petteway and Amy White – People Look East
Meredith Dean Joseph
Salvatore Tassone

I will second Lisa’s shameless promotion of Catholic Moments, as well as Rosary Army, The Catholic Hack, and my own shameless promotion of The Catholic Spotlight at http://www.catholicspotlight.com.
If you want something really fresh, my wife put up her first podcast last night at http://www.homebizmomcast.com.
And, BTW, I also use a Creative Zen. It is a nice player for the money at about a third the price of an iPod.

I love all these suggestions. I’d love to see a followup post with your favorites!

Great idea and wonderful suggestions.
Here’s mind:
www.TwoEdgetalk.com with Cindi and Deacon Tim always a delight to listen to. They come up with the greatest topics to discuss.
Anne, We, or I, love listening to JPII in Abba Pater. My best friend, who is a devout Southern Baptist, found this and bought it for me as a birthday gift a few years ago. What a treasure for our dear beloved Pope John Paul II to sing the “Our Father” to us in Latin! almost like a lullaby.
